A category page is a wiki page which represents a wiki category. A category page not only lists all the pages in the category, but also allows a full, normal wiki page to be made, describing the category itself, and how to use it.

Examples of usage:

Linking

If you add a link to a category page, such as by adding the wiki text [[Category:Wiki]] to a page, then this automatically adds the page to the category, but the link to the category page appears at the bottom of the page, instead of where it was place in the text.

To link to a category page without adding a page to the category (and leaving the link in-line with the text), you add a colon (':') at the front of the wiki text, such as [[:Category:Wiki]], which renders as a normal-looking wiki link of the 'Category' namespace. For example, Category:Wiki.
